Summary: Following up some items in other reviews 2010-04-15
Comment: Ordered this to replace a gigantic triple-cushioned Queen-sized bed in a very small room, and I am using it as my primary bed.
It IS very close to the ground. There is no wooden box frame or legs that lift the mattress to standard bed height. The trade-off is that the platform is very, very light. I have no problem moving it around when I want to make a furniture adjustment, or lift the head to bring it into its 'lounger' configuration.
Construction was very fast, and easy. All the pieces were labeled well, and I was done in less than an hour.
The wooden pieces could have used a little more finishing. I had a small sander to smooth the ends of the slats, but I didn't mind the extra five minutes it took to do this. One reviewer said that he enjoyed the idea of staining the frame. That is the joy of plain wood; if you want to stain or paint this to your taste, it would be very easy.
This is a very firm bed, which is what I was looking for. My last bed was way over-cushioned and I wanted something more spartan.
Summary: I have a DIY spirit, and didn't mind doing a little tweaking to get this just right for me. This futon really, really suits my taste and my budget, but I can see how many people would have problems with it. If you like the minimalist look, or have to get something with a small profile for small guest room, this will work well for you. If you need a Western-style box-and-bed, with a standard height, and typical mattress softness, this is NOT for you, and I would knock off a star or two from my score.

Summary: Economical Futon 2009-03-29
Comment: I purchased this for one of my children. While the futon pad is heavy, and of excellent quality, I can't say that the wood frame is. It's been a struggle to keep it together since we purchased it. I have reinforced the frame with screws and it seems to be holding together okay for now. This futon is very low to the floor; I would not recommend it for adults. I do like the way it folds up into a "chair" to keep from taking up too much floor space when not in use.

Summary: Much assembly required 2008-05-05
Comment: At least there weren't too many knots. The pine boards were lightly sanded and unfinished, which was OK for me because I love staining wood. (I used pre-stain, then several coats of red mahogany, then polyurethane satin finish.) The parts went together reasonably well, but substituting drywall screws for wood screws is really cheapskate.
Update: I've finished assembling the second unit. It had a few rather obvious splinters along some of the boards.

Summary: Outstanding Value! 2007-10-08
Comment: I bought this frame and mattress for my daughter's bedroom, and she loves it. I haven't tried it out, but she has told me it's very comfortable.
Assembly was very straightforward with fairly good directions. I believe it's sturdy enough to last until she can take it with her to college.
Really fits the bill for affordable and flexible bedroom furniture.

Summary: Too Low for Old Bones 2007-05-04
Comment: I purchased this for an emergency sleeping situation and can't wait until I can return to my real bed.
Although it is of good value, and would be fine for a youngster, I get exhausted just getting down onto it, or up from it.
I will keep it for when grandkids sleep over, in future.
