Product Description
The Tri-Fold's unique patented design allows an incredible thirteen different positions, including 8 lounge positions and 4 loveseat positions. The back angle can be set to any of four positions and the foot-rest has swing down legs so that it can be used in the foot-up or foot-down position, additionally the foot-rest section folds under out of the way when not in use. But that's not all, the Tri-Fold also quickly and easily converts to a full size 10 inch high platform bed by simply folding the back down flat and raising the foot-rest. Our solid hardwood futon frames are the finest quality unfinished frames on the market. Unlike most pine frames we kiln dry our hardwood to 8% moisture content and plane the wood on 4 sides which yields a smooth clean surface with rounded edges. This pure untreated wood is preferred by many consumers seeking a natural, hypo-allergenic alternative to todays chemical laden products. PLEASE NOTE: Assembly Required. Mattress not included. For Frame & Mattress combos, please see our other listings. SORRY, WE DO NOT SHIP TO ALASKA OR HAWAII.

5.0 out of 5 stars Versatile and well-made, April 30, 2010

I was looking for something loveseat size that would fit in our small living room. I also wanted to make it into a bed for guests. This was the perfect size for our little corner. We have it in the seat position and it works just like a loveseat/small couch. You have to have a thin futon mattress to do this, as you fold the bottom of the mattress under the middle. It's just long enough for me to sprawl out and read on it--I think a double size tri-fold would have been too narrow to do this. When in the lounger position, it takes up a lot of room but would be useful for those who like to lounge about in bed. The footrest can be horizontal or diagonal toward the ground. The bed is quite comfortable, although it will need some extra padding since we have the thin futon mattress on it. We had concerns that, since it is a wide queen size, it would have too much stress in the middle and be prone to breaking if too much weight were placed upon it. I don't think we have to worry about this...Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Very nice futon, September 2, 2010

Moved into an apt but wanted to be able to lounge in my room so I decided on this futon. Took about an hour to put together but the instructions were straight forward. I didn't bother painting the frame.

As far as moving the reclining position, the ease or difficulty of that all depends on what type of mattress you have. I have a pretty thick matress (Otis Moonshadow) so when I move the recliner, I have to hold the mattress forward with one hand, while I move the backrest into the position I want. I'm sure it will get easier as time goes on as I have yet to get the mattress broken in yet.

I also ordered a set of futon grip strips just so I wouldn't have the mattress sliding all over the place when I change the orientation of the futon.

Pros: The frame offers a number of different positions which is great. The construction and wood feel sturdy and solid. The parts were well manufactured - holes line up well, and I had no problems assembling the frame. Also, the use of bolts with "hairpins" is brilliant - they are very easy to put together. A rubber mallet and a screwdriver were all the tools needed, and no glue necessary!

Cons: The parts could have been labeled to make the assembly process easier. The directions are fine, and if you lay out all the pieces and keep track of which are which, it's straightforward enough, but some people will have trouble as there are a lot of pieces to keep track of and some look very similar.

Overall I'm very happy with the purchase. It's given a new life to our queen futon mattress.
